I had the pleasure of working with Josh for more than three years at TROOP, first as a partner on marketing and brand projects and later as his manager when I became VP of Product. Over that time, I saw Josh grow into a thoughtful, highly collaborative product designer who was increasingly taking on work at a senior level. Josh worked on a number of complex, ambiguous product problems and turned them into thoughtful user experiences. He worked closely with product managers and engineers from the earliest stages of a project—helping explore the problem, brainstorm solutions, and understand user needs—through workflows, wireframes, prototypes, user testing, detailed design, and ultimately implementation. He didn't view the handoff to engineering as the end of his work; he stayed engaged through release, listened to customer feedback, and iterated when needed. At TROOP, Josh worked on several entirely new areas of the product, where there wasn't an established pattern to follow. This required him to think beyond individual screens and consider how new functionality fit into the broader product experience. He brought a thoughtful product mindset to that work and was good at balancing user needs, business requirements, and technical considerations. His collaboration with engineering was a particular strength. Josh is also a genuinely good teammate. He's thoughtful, kind, open to feedback, and easy to work with. He builds strong relationships across product, design, and engineering and is a collaborative partner who takes feedback seriously and uses it to improve his work. In addition to his product work, Josh helped establish and maintain TROOP's design library and was a valuable partner on brand and marketing projects, including our website and visual identity. He's comfortable working across the boundaries of product, UX, and visual design, and has also embraced emerging tools and AI to make his design process more effective. I enjoyed working with Josh and would welcome the opportunity to work with him again. He brings strong design skills, product thinking, curiosity, humility, and a collaborative approach to his work, and I think he would be a valuable addition to a product design team.
